As an impact and reorganization of the successful implementation of previous Artificial Reef projects by PLANT the Centre for Environment Education – CEE has supported UNDP GEF Small Grant Programme - SGP to execute one artificial reef project at C-Pudupet fishing village in Cuddalore district. This project was successfully implemented during the financial year. Within the period of one year the fishermen started fishing in the reef zone and harvested nearly 15 lakhs worth of fish. This project has brought positive impact in the lives of the fishermen community by adopting the system of sustainable use of fishery resources for their sustainable livelihood development. Eventually, this project was reorganized by the Ministry of Environment and Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and conferred PLANT with very prestigious UNDP India Biodiversity award 2016 under the category of Sustainable Use of Biological Resources in the presence Hon’ble Environment Minister of India and Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra on 22nd May 2016 in Mumbai.
