Country Chicken Rearing - Coastal Irula Tribe
The Coastal Irula Tribe Country Chicken Rearing Enterprise project, supported by the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS) CSR initiative, has had a profound impact on the livelihoods of 55 Irula tribe families in the coastal region.
Through this project, Irula tribe families have been empowered to engage in country chicken rearing as a sustainable income-generating activity. The initiative provides an alternative livelihood option for the community, allowing them to supplement their income and improve their overall economic well-being.
By rearing desi birds indigenous to the region, the Irula tribe families are able to tap into local resources and traditional knowledge, ensuring the sustainability and resilience of the enterprise. Additionally, the project promotes the preservation of indigenous chicken breeds, contributing to biodiversity conservation efforts in the area.
The monthly additional income of Rs. 3000 earned by each participating family signifies a significant boost to their financial stability and quality of life. This additional income not only meets immediate needs but also opens up opportunities for investment in education, healthcare, and other essential services for the families and their communities.
Furthermore, the Coastal Irula Tribe Country Chicken Rearing Enterprise project fosters self-reliance and entrepreneurship among the Irula tribe members, empowering them to take ownership of their economic futures and break the cycle of poverty.
Overall, the project exemplifies the positive impact that strategic CSR initiatives can have on marginalized communities, promoting sustainable livelihoods, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering social and economic development in the coastal region.
