Rare International Workshop
The international workshop on "Community Management Practices of Marine Resources and Social Marketing," jointly organized by Rare International and PLANT, was a significant event held on June 18th, 2012, at Pulicat, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, India. The workshop aimed to foster discussions and knowledge exchange on effective community management practices for marine resources and the role of social marketing in promoting conservation efforts.
Dr. Steve, President of Rare International, along with Khan, Programme Officer, and Mr. Murali Kallur, Country Incharge, facilitated the workshop, bringing together a diverse group of participants including local communities, government officials, marine scientists and consultants, NGOs, and college students.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to share experiences, best practices, and innovative approaches in community-based marine resource management and social marketing strategies. Through interactive sessions and discussions, attendees gained insights into successful initiatives and learned about effective methods for engaging communities in conservation activities.
PLANT's association with organizations such as the Earthwatch Institute and Earth Day Network further highlighted its commitment to biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness. Collaborative efforts with these organizations have enabled PLANT to conduct various initiatives including biodiversity awareness campaigns, plastic waste management, beach cleaning activities, sea turtle conservation projects, and mass awareness programs in Chennai and neighboring districts.
Overall, the international workshop facilitated valuable discussions and collaboration among stakeholders, contributing to enhanced community engagement and effective management of marine resources for sustainable development and conservation.
