Innovative Waste Management in Minjur

PLANT, in collaboration with Environ Tech and with CSR support from APM Terminals, has successfully implemented a sustainable municipal waste management project in Minjur Panchayat, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

A key achievement of the initiative was the establishment of a 5-ton capacity biogas plant, which is now operated by the Panchayat. This plant generates electricity used to power a nearby public toilet, contributing to both energy sustainability and public hygiene.

In addition, the biogas sludge is utilized as organic manure to support floriculture cultivation in Minjur block, promoting eco-friendly farming and resource recovery.

Plastic Waste Management

Through its plastic recycling programme, PLANT collects, segregates, and channels waste plastic to certified recycling companies. This effort directly empowers local Safai Samithis by engaging them in the waste value chain, eliminating exploitation by intermediaries.

The project also includes community-driven ocean and beach cleaning campaigns, reducing marine plastic pollution and protecting coastal biodiversity.

"Waste is a resource in the wrong place. PLANT’s waste management model turns waste into energy, empowerment, and environmental action."
