GPS Training in Perumanal Village

The GPS training program conducted by PLANT, in partnership with the Department of Geography at the University of Madras and supported by the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNP) CSR initiative, has been a game changer for fishermen youth in Perumanal village, Thirunelveli district.

Around 60 fishermen were trained to operate GPS systems effectively, an essential skill for those involved in deep-sea fishing. GPS proficiency ensures navigational safety, optimizes fishing routes, and enhances productivity.

The training provided technical knowledge and practical skills, enabling precise location tracking and improved navigation. This has significantly reduced risks and enhanced the efficiency of their fishing operations.

The collaboration with academic institutions ensures the delivery of high-quality, community-relevant training, while KKNP’s support reflects their commitment to sustainable community development through CSR.

Overall, this GPS training initiative highlights how technological empowerment and collaboration among stakeholders can drive meaningful, long-term improvements in the livelihoods and safety of coastal communities.

"Skill development is not just about earning—it’s about empowerment, independence, and sustainable futures."
